STREET / ROADSIDE ZOOS

Roadside zoos are an abhorrent industry often run by independent wildlife animal owners to earn quick and easy money.

Animals such as snakes, monkeys, elephants and bears are used to perform tricks and entertain passing tourists. They are often kept on short chains for hours on end and will endure some level of pain to perform the tricks.

Other animals not used for performing but to be observed will experience the same miserable existence

When not performing they will likely be kept in a pitifully small cage with little to no nutrition, space to roam or interaction with others of their species.

These activities are despicable and even if you are in a country that deems such practices acceptable, arguing that it's a way for people to make a living, this does not condone the inherent abuse and suffering that the animal goes through, for the sake of a quick selfie.
